If you were in trouble or ran afoul of the law, which fictional detective or investigator—from tv, movies, or books—would you want to help you?

Adrian Monk. I'd pay him in sanitizers.
or
Miss Marple. She could use any down time to teach me how to knit.

laughing my ass off this morning :D

geeked
I was up late last night and got up early this morning. We are snowed in, as was expected. I have spent my entire morning laughing at clips people posted in this ONTD post about the recent possible scandal on The Price is Right.
This led me to a series of you tube clips.

This one made me laugh so hard I cried and Eleanor came over to ask me what was wrong.

This one wasn't as much about laughter as it was about "that kid is having a great day, and drew carey is not a bad host at all".

Anyway, I don't know if all this is as funny as I think it is, it could just be the lack of sleep.
Also, my friend was booed on the TPIR for not getting the wheel to spin all the way around.

Do you believe in ghosts? Have you ever encountered one?

View 500 Answers

When I was 6 I went to a birthday party at my friends house. Everything was fine until we went upstairs to her bedroom. For some reason I had a melt down. I cried and cried for no apparent reason, I think I was saying that I was scared. I think it was written off as me being scared to be separated from my family or something? I don't quite remember what had happened, I only remember my friends older sister walking me home. I had played at her house before, but mostly outside. A few years later I slept at her house. Her bedroom was no longer the room in the corner, instead it was in an over-sized hallway, but that did not matter because we slept in the living room. Why is that? Because her house was haunted and her bedroom was where the ghosts usually stayed.
So yeah, I believe in ghosts.

See, this band that you probably never heard of, is insanely popular up north. Sold Out Tours popular. And I am talking big stadium venues. When I moved to the South (and by South I mean Philadelphia) I saw them in concert there. Philly is about an 8 hour drive from the Buffalo, NY- Ontario Bridges. The show was filled to capacity. With the exception of myself, the staff and about 5 other people (who oddly enough I knew from back home) Everyone there was Canadian. Everyone sang every song at the top of their drunken lungs.
One of my top three concerts ever.

Hey Canadian LJers, Happy Canada Day! Celebrate by listening to The Tragically Hip! (or The Lowest of the Low or The New Pornographers, or my personal old school fave, Pure.)

Only 2 more days of swim class, and i think E and I may have made a friend or two. Even though E was a big brat yesterday...

D called from work, he is going to a going away party for one of the quitters today. It must be nice to call from work and say, Oh I am going out. If I called from work I'd be the one answering the phone. And I can't go out cause my car is dead.
Apparently though the quitter will be getting twice his salary at his new job. So now everyone thinks they get better paying jobs. I don't think they should be greedy though. Yeah, money helps, but it usually means twice the work. And if you hate the work you are doing now...

I have to post a gratuitous food post later. (And read everyone posts.)Right now I have to go make the cheese sauce for my cheesey broccoli kohlrabi rice dish. It was going to be a side dish, but since D isn't stopping at the store, no veggie burgers tonight.

Comment on this post and I will choose seven interests from your profile. You will then explain what they mean and why you are interested in them. Post this along with your answers to your own journal so that others can play along.

[info]psychospider picked my 7 and here they are!

agatha christie- this is a newer interest. well, 3 years or so new. when i was 8 my grandparents lived in the apartment below mine and they had a gazillion books. my grandma read horror novels and my grandpa read mysteries. he had a ton of agatha christie books. i opted to read my grandma's entire collection instead. (the covers were cooler and i was a spooky kid.) about 3 years ago i did not have cable and one night caught an episode of Mystery! on pbs and they were showing Miss Marple Murders. i have always been a fan of the murder mystery movie that takes place in a mansion (clue, gosford park, etc) so i instantly became a fan of Miss Marple. i have almost completed that series and will move on to Hercule Poirot soon.

being a mom- i'm under 3 years in at this "being a mom" gig so i find it interesting. i am an observer so i like to sit back and see the different ways people behave in their roles as a mom as well. i have it listed because if someone came along and read my interests they would have to know that i have a daughter and i will talk about her incessantly. because she is so effing awesome.

giada dilaurentis- little bighead! she is my favorite food network star. my favorite food has always been italian, she did some dishes on her show that a) i *could* eat (ie- ingredients i can work with) b) don't look very difficult and c) are pretty tasty. we invested in her cookbook and surprisingly we make food from it all the time. well, once a month or two. i used to make fun of the way she said "spaghetti" and the zillion teeth she has, but her mushroom artichoke thimbles dish is not to be made fun of. so good!

lotr films- the first time i saw the first Lord f the Rings movie was after an 8 hour car ride and i fell asleep. i woke up midway and had my 5 year old nephew tell me what i missed and fell back asleep. way back in high school i started reading The Hobbit, because my boyfriend wanted me to read LOTR since it was his favorite book. i fell asleep not even a page into the book. so i sensed a pattern. D could not believe that i would not watch the 2nd film since it was "all about wizards and talking trees and shit" so he made me hot caffeinated drinks and forced me to watch the first 2 movies so we could go to the theater and watch the third. i loved them. and have seen them several times. i am vastly impressed with the making of documentaries.

milwaukee- i am interested in this place because before i moved to the area i only knew of it as the place Laverne and Shirley were based in (which as a child i figured was somewhere near Brooklyn) as well as that scene in Waynes World where Alice Cooper talks briefly about Milwaukee and it's Native American pronunciation. it was after i moved here that i learned Dahmer lived here too.

teaching myself new things- i have always taken it upon myself to learn new things. i am self taught at a lot which may explain why i am not particularly amazing at anything. we could not afford piano lessons, but i got a keyboard when i was 9 and taught myself how to play by ear. i taught myself (and my sister) how to play chess using an encyclopedia. i taught myself crochet, i can sew things without using patterns, i can use an 8mm movie camera and can edit it (without sound), i can read tarot cards and make candles. i am presently learning the guitar, photoshop and, as always, french.

the rapture- no not the apocalypse. i was watching a movie called The Rules of Attraction and i believe it was the "End of the World Pre-Party"(?idk there were many parties in that film) bonfire and a song kicked on that was kind of jangly and noisy and dancy. It was a song called Out of the Races and on to the Tracks by The Rapture and i was in love. D liked Techno and i liked guitars and this was almost a combination of the two. i don't know what type of music the kids call it nowadays but i think of them as "disco punk".
